O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat

The Yarn Retreat – 6th to 9th October 2022
Live In Package

Introduction

I would love for you to join me for a long weekend of crafting, relaxation and soaking up the amazing environment of O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat in the magnificent Lamington National Park.  My grandfather was one of the founders of the Guest House and the surrounds were my childhood playground, it is a privilege to share the days with you at retreat.  The Yarn Retreat brings together some of Australia’s best tutors in knitting, crochet and other yarn crafts to offer you workshops complimented by days of nothing to do by learn and create, with a little bit of yarn shopping added.

The Venue – O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat

The O’Reilly family pioneered ecotourism in Australia when they began hosting visitors in Lamington National Park in 1915 and later charging for this service in 1926. In these days, the former O’Reilly’s “Guest House” and slab huts took nature lovers two days via car, train and horseback.

Over the past 90 years O’Reilly’s has earned its well‐respected reputation as being an exceptional property with quality experiences and customer service that offers guests value for money. Guests thrive on learning about the history and heritage of the Australian O’Reilly family including Stinson plane discoverer Bernard O’Reilly.

The retreat is about 2 hours drive from the Gold Coast Airport and about 2 ½ from Brisbane. There are connecting bus services and if there is a group of participants arriving at the same time I will be able to organise a pickup for you (additional cost).

The Tutors

I am still in the process of confirming the final list of tutors for the retreat, but I can let you know they are some of the best in the country and I could not be more excited!  Shelley Husband (Spincusions) will again be joining us to share her love of Granny Squares in addition to tutors in knitting and crochet.

More about Shelley…

Shelley Husband is an Australian crochet designer and crochet teacher living on the south west coast of Victoria with her hubby and teenager in a tiny dot of a town by the ocean. Her two older children have left the nest and are spreading their own crafty and arty wings out in the world.

Shelley has crafted most of her life, trying “all of the crafts” over the years. These days, she spends most of her time with a crochet hook in hand. Having discovered a natural knack for crochet about seven years ago after a break of a few decades, she hasn’t looked back, creating hundreds of Granny Square patterns.  Shelley loves nothing more than designing new patterns aiming to extend her own and our crochet skills, gently challenging and encouraging us to create timeless, classic pieces sure to be admired and appreciated.

Seamless crochet is a real passion and she has many tips and tricks to make our crochet look the best it possibly can, using techniques she has combined and tweaked over the years. When not designing crochet, you can find Shelley teaching crochet in workshops around Victoria and beyond.

For those who cannot take a workshop in person, she teaches worldwide via her annual Crochet-A-Long projects through her blog and YouTube channel.  There is no doubting Shelley’s passion for all things crochet.

You can find Shelley online at www.spincushions.com and on most social media channels as Spincushions.
